Sharon Salzberg to Speak on Fierce Compassion at Smith College on April 12
Northampton, MA (PRWeb) March 23, 2007 -- Sharon Salzberg is one of the most honored meditation teachers in the West and co-founder of the Insight Meditation Center in Barre, MA. She will speak at Smith College on April 12, 7pm, about her book, The Force of Kindness (Sounds True, 2005). After the talk, Sharon will be available to sign books. Co-sponsored by Smith College and the Insight Meditation Center of Pioneer Valley, this event will take place at Smith College's Helen Hills Hills Chapel. The public is welcome, with a suggested donation of $5-$20 per person. No one will be turned away for lack of funds.
His Holiness the Dalai Lama has stated, "My true religion is kindness." The quality of kindness has an inherent power to transform our worldview from one of fear and isolation to one rooted in clarity, courage and compassion.
Sharon Salzberg will speak on the powerful, sometimes fierce side of kindness, known in the teachings as wrathful compassion. Through talks, guided meditations and question and answer sessions, Sharon will explore the terrain of right intention, right speech and right action in the everyday challenge of bringing together compassion, honesty, strength and balance.
Sharon Salzberg is one of America's leading spiritual teachers and authors. A co-founder of the Insight Meditation Society in Barre, Massachusetts, she has led meditation retreats worldwide since 1974. Sharon's latest book is The Force of Kindness, published by Sounds True (2005). She is also the author of Faith: Trusting Your Own Deepest Experience, published by Riverhead Books; Lovingkindness: The Revolutionary Art of Happiness, and A Heart as Wide as the World, both published by Shambhala Publications. She is co-author with Joseph Goldstein of the audio book, Insight Meditation, a Step-by-Step Course on How to Meditate.
This is a fundraising event for the Insight Meditation Center of Pioneer Valley, and is co-sponsored by Smith College's Department of Religion. Serving Western Massachusetts, Insight PV is a non-residential Buddhist retreat center in the Theravadin Buddhist tradition. We offer weekly open sittings, classes, retreats and special events.
