Ellis College of NYIT, a Leading, Accredited Online University, Awards Inaugural Provost And Chairman College Scholarships
Stamford, Conn. (PRWEB) May 25, 2007 -- Ellis College of NYIT, a fully-accredited online college offering career-based distance learning to working professionals, have awarded students William Vardeman and Catherine Smith the inaugural Ellis College Provost College Scholarship and Ellis College Chairman College Scholarship respectively. Providing free tuition towards a subsequent Ellis College online course, the combined value of the college scholarships is $2,600.
Vardeman of Holly Springs, N.C., has been awarded the Provost College Scholarship for academic merit for earning a grade point average (GPA) of 3.95 in Ellis College of NYIT's interdisciplinary studies program. Despite facing numerous setbacks, including losing his jobs in the aftermath of Sept. 11 and Hurricane Wilma, Vardeman's determination will make him, at 60 years of age, the first person in his family to receive a four-year college degree. Upon graduating from Ellis College, Vardeman hopes to start his own advertising business.
Smith, a single mother of two from Moody, Ala., currently works two jobs to support her family. Despite these difficult circumstances, she has been able to successfully balance her coursework in the Ellis College online psychology program, maintaining a strong academic performance and earning the Chairman College Scholarship. Smith looks forward to continuing her degree studies at Ellis College of NYIT in order to advance her career and have the flexibility to spend more time with her children.
Offered throughout the academic year, the Ellis College Provost and Chairman College Scholarships are available to both active undergraduate and graduate students who have completed at least nine credits at Ellis College of NYIT. Students applying for the Provost or Chairman College Scholarships have the opportunity to keep their applications on file, eliminating the need to submit a new scholarship application each term. In addition, in order to maximize the number of students who can benefit from these awards, a student is only eligible to win the Chairman or Provost College Scholarships once per year.
